Frequently asked questions
-
Where are recordings saved?
By default:
~/Library/Application Support/PlainRec/. You can choose another folder in Recording Settings. - Can I record a single app window? Yes. In Recording Settings, set Capture range to “Single Window”. This option is available in Plain mode.
- Why don’t I see “Single Window”? Switch to Plain Recording mode. Annotation mode supports Full Screen and Custom size.
- How do I include microphone audio? In Recording Settings, choose Audio input: “System audio + microphone”, then pick your input source. Ensure microphone permission is granted.
- What is the difference between MOV and MP4? PlainRec records to MOV first. If MP4 is selected, it exports to MP4 after recording ends. If export fails, the MOV file is kept.
- How do annotation shortcuts work? During annotation recording, use Cmd+D to switch persistent/no drawing and Cmd+T for timed drawing.
- Why is Annotation mode unavailable? Annotation mode requires a valid license status in the app.
