Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 5, 2026
PlainRec (“we”, “the app”) is a screen recording application for macOS. This policy describes what data is processed, where it is processed, and what permissions the app requests.
Your recordings
Screen content and recorded video files are processed locally on your Mac. PlainRec does not upload your recorded video/audio content to cloud storage.
Data stored on your device
The app stores preferences on your Mac (for example: save directory, quality, format, capture range, selected input device, and effect toggles). Recorded files remain in the folder you choose.
Permissions
PlainRec requests the following system permissions:
- Screen & System Audio Recording – Required to capture your display and (optionally) system audio.
- Microphone – Optional; used only if you enable “Audio Input” to include your voice or other audio input.
- Camera – Optional; used only if you enable camera overlay.
- Notifications – Optional; used to notify you when a recording has been saved.
- File access – To save recordings to the folder you select; the app does not access files beyond what you choose.
Diagnostics and service providers
PlainRec integrates third-party SDKs for crash reporting and app diagnostics (including Firebase and Sentry). These services may receive technical metadata such as app version, device/OS information, crash traces, and diagnostic events. We do not intentionally send screen recording content as part of diagnostics.
Network requests
The app may contact backend services for license verification and update checks. These requests can include technical request metadata and license-related tokens required for those features.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will be revised when changes are published.
